Hotel Dali - This hostel/hotel was in a nice location and very clean. Additionally, the price wasn't bad considering that Florence is an expensive city.
Eat
Oh boy, where do I begin. You will eat your heart out in Florence. You can also get by well on a budget!
Mario's - This was a great mom-and-pop type place where the daily offerings are written on a chalk board. Like any good small diner, it doesn't have a website. Location: Via Rosina 2r
Borgo Antico - This was also a great find for delicious and inexpensive Tuscan fare. Sit at a table outside, then grab some gelato and take a stroll along the riverside.
Do
Make reservations the day before for the museums. Just go to the museum ticket office, skipping the line, and purchase tickets for later in the day or the next day. That way you can avoid the 2hr+ line for the Uffizi museum, for example.
Arrive early (read 8-9am) to climb Il Duomo. It's totally worth it because the views are fantastic and you don't want to have to climb all of those narrow stairs with a crowd.
