Hostal Fernando - This hostel was clean, had A/C, and most importantly, in an ideal location, right off of Las Ramblas.
Eat
Barcelona has amazing food and you can eat really well on a budget. Here are some recommendations:
La Fonda - Get in line early!
Les 15 Nits - Again..get in line early! The location in Placa Reial is beautiful.
The Bagel Shop - Okay, okay. Poor Jared (from North Jerz) had to suffer for months without true New York bagels...we had to eat breakfast here..every single day.
The Bagel Shop's plazaAnd definitely pick up fresh goodies for a picnic from the Boqueria market, located off of Las Ramblas.
I also recommend eating at one of the sidewalk cafes along the Mediterranean, specifically near the Barceloneta neighborhood. Nothing better than some fresh calamari while enjoying views of the ocean.
SeeLa Sagrada Familia - The exemplar of Gaudi's architechture is constantly under construction because it is still being finished! It's a beautiful cathedral and it's actually very cool to see and compare the older parts of the church with the new construction.
Parque Guell - Sorry, this Barcelona post doesn't have many pictures of Parque Guell. See my Barcelona 2007 trip post for info on this magical park full of Gaudi's architecture.Montjuic - I highly recommend a trip to Barcelona's mountain...the hike to the top is scenic and good exercise. From the top you'll get gorgeous views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean. Then just take the teleferic, or cable car, down to the port.
